The comedian had the first leg of his wedding yesterday which was their trad and today as they had the proper one, a car gift was presented to him and his wife.

The car is a brand new Geely Emgrand EC7 GL vehicle placed at N5.6m.

Kaduna Emir dies five days to 78th birthday

The Emir of Lere Kingdom in Kaduna State, Brigadier General Abubakar Garba Muhammad (retd), is dead.

According to family sources, he died at a private Hospital in Kaduna on Saturday morning.

The source said his burial arrangement will be announced later.

The monarch’s nephew, Ismaila Lere, confirmed the demise on social media when he posted: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihir raji’un!!! I received the sad news awhile ago about the demise of my dear uncle and guardian, His Highness, the Emir of Lere, Brigadier General Abubakar Garba Muhammad (rtd), OFR mini. Gun salutes run across Britain to honour Prince Philip

Gun salutes rang out across Britain in Gibraltar and from vessels at sea on Saturday to mark the death of Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II.

Saluting batteries fired 41 rounds at one round every minute from midday (1100 GMT), the UK’s Ministry of Defence said.

Buckingham Palace said the prince, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, died on Friday morning at Windsor Castle to the west of London.

Members of the royal family led the tributes to Philip, who was also remembered by leaders around the world.

Many Nigerians trapped as Volcano hits Caribbean Island

Many Nigerians are currently trapped in the Caribbean Island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines due to a volcanic eruption.

Dr Levi Odoe, the Consul-General of Nigeria on the Island, has appealed for support from the Nigerian government and other public-spirited entities around the world.

“There are a lot of Nigerians on the Island, and this causes health challenges. Families are being moved to other countries. We will appreciate assistance from well-wishers and friends,” Dr Odoe appealed in a message.

Daily Trust gathered that there are no fewer than 230 Nigerian students studying medicine on the Island, and a host of tourists from the country were there when the tragedy occurred.

So far, thousands of people have been evacuated to safer parts of the Island and neighbouring Island nations, using buses and cruise ships.

Oh dear! So the drama all started when Dr Joe Abah tweeted at Sterling Bank telling them that the account balance showing in his APP is different from what he got as a text message and what was sent to his email and wants to know WHY.

Dr Joe claims his account balance on his App is about N2000 lesser than the balances on his phone and email.

He then tweeted at the Sterling to know which to believe, and oh dear, @GTbank replied him.

Angry about this, he asked the bank if they were OKAY.

Thugs disrupt PDP North West congress in Kaduna [Photos]

Thugs today disrupted the North West congress of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) held at the Kaduna International Trade fair complex.

Findings gathered that the major cause of the mayhem was about who emerges as the Zonal vice chairman of the party in the zone.

The PDP North West is comprising of seven states of Kano Katsina, Kaduna, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara.

According to findings, there are two top contenders, Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo from Kano State and Muhammad Jamo Yusuf also from Kano State.

CBN explains why Nigeria CAN'T STOP BORROWING

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has insisted that Nigeria can’t stop borrowing, mainly when it’s necessary.

Mr Godwin Emefiele, the CBN Governor, disclosed this in Abuja on Friday at the National Dialogue on Nigeria’s rising debt profile, titled: “The Rising Public Debt in Nigeria and the Challenges of National Development,” organised by the Action Aid Nigeria (AAN).

Emefiele, who was represented by Dr Tawose Joseph, the Assistant Director, Monetary Policy Department, CBN, said there is no crime in borrowing.

According to him, there should be monitoring and evaluation of the money borrowed and its purpose.

LASU student, others kidnapped on Warri-Benin Highway

An accounting student of the Lagos State University, LASU, Olowa Kehinde, was at the weekend abducted with others along the Warri-Benin Highway while coming back to Lagos

Speaking in an interview with Vanguard, the Public Relations Officer of the LASU Student Union Government, Adams Zaenab Olawunmi, said immediately the leadership of the union got wind of the development, necessary contacts were made with security agencies.

“We got the information Saturday and we have swung into action. The incident happened somewhere along the Warri-Benin Highway while he was coming back to Lagos. We don’t know how many people were abducted.

“We have been in touch with the Director of DSS, Lagos State who has also been in touch with his colleagues in the affected areas. They assured us that they would discharge their duties and get our colleague back safely.

Davido yesterday on Friday visited the governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun at the government house, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Drug trafficker EXCRETES 113 wraps of cocaine worth N423m

A suspected drug trafficker, Okonkwo Chimezie Henry, has excreted 113 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.750 kg with a street value of N423 million.

This followed his arrest at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos on Easter Day, Sunday, 4th April, 2021, where he was headed for Madrid, Spain.

Director, Media and Advocacy, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Headquarters, Abuja, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja yesterday.

The statement reads, “Okonkwo was about boarding a Turkish Airline flight number TK0626 at about 8pm when he was apprehended at screening 2 point and taken into custody by the NDLEA operatives at the Lagos airport. He was subsequently put under observation at the JBTF/NDLEA facility for further investigation.

Attempt by Shehu Mohammed, a Public Administration student of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, to smuggle a locally made gun and five rounds of ammunition into campus was foiled by security personnel of the institution on Friday.

Vigilant security personnel of the Polytechnic were surprised during a routine check that instead of writing materials, the student came to the school with a gun.

On discovery of his strange ‘wares’ Mohammed had attempted to run away but the security personnel were able to stop him.

Ondo state's Adegbola knocks out Yobe's Adetoye in 15 secs

Ondo state boxer, Adedeji Adegbola, on Friday, knocked out his opponent, Oluwafemi Adetoye of Yobe state, in a record 15 seconds of their first round heavyweight boxing bout at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Benin.

The bout, held at the Oba Akenzuwa Cultural Center, Benin, was at the semi-finals stage.

With the win, Adegbola has qualified for the semi finals of the heavyweight category and placed him with the medals range, alongside five team mates vying in other weight categories.

I won’t pay ransom even if my son is kidnapped - El-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has said he will never pay ransom to bandits even if they kidnap his son.

The governor said this in a radio chat on Friday in Kaduna to underscore his government’s policy of not negotiating with bandits.

Mr El-Rufai has consistently said government should only apply force in dealing with bandits and other violent criminals, reiterating the stand on Thursday by stressing that bandits do not deserve to live.

In his current remarks on Friday, Mr El-Rufai said he had warned his family members to be careful to avoid being abducted. He said he also told them he would never pay a ransom for their freedom, should any of them get into the hands of bandits.

Gunmen on motorcycles kidnap petrol dealer in Ekiti

Suspected gunmen in Isan-Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State, have kidnapped a petrol dealer, Mr. Itakorode Adebayo. 

Itakorode is the general manager of Prosperous Filling Station, located at Isan-Ekiti, hometown of the sate governor, Kayode Fayemi.

This incident happened few months after a chieftain of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Alhaji Suleiman Akinbami was kidnapped by unknown gunmen at his filling station along Ado-Ijan Road.

It was gathered that gunmen numbering eight had invaded the petrol station around 7pm on Thursday and abducted the victim.

Rainstorm kills 3, destroys church buildings, electric poles

At least, three persons lost their lives on Friday after rainstorm wreaked havoc on Obinze, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.

This was even as no fewer than 35 electric poles, two church buildings and a brewery depot were destroyed by the dangerous wind.

A village source told our correspondent that the incident which happened along the Obinze-Umuokanne road left no fewer than 12 persons wounded.

The source said, “The raging wind dismantled no less than 35 electric poles along the Umuokanne-Obinze road. It also claimed three lives and destroyed two church buildings and a brewery depot.

Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, said Britain's Prince Philip would be "greatly missed" in a statement following the news of the death of Harry's grandfather on Friday.

Set on a full-screen dark background, the message, which was posted on the front page of the couple's Archewell charity, simply reads: "In loving memory of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, 1921-2021. Thank you for your service... you will be greatly missed."

The Sussexes stepped back from the royal family last year, giving up their royal titles and saying at the time that they wanted to be financially independent.

Covid-19: Lagos eases restrictions on social, event centres

The Lagos State Government on Friday announced further easing of restrictions on social and event centres across the state with immediate effect.

Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile Yusuff and the Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr Lanre Mojola made the announcement.

According to Majola, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, gave the approval after due consultation and deliberations with relevant stakeholders and Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDA’s including the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Lagos State Safety Commission.

He listed the new guidelines for social/event facilities to include: “All event centres must hold a valid license of The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture prior to operating as an event centre in the State.

Osun festival to hold in August, despite pollution of sacred river – State govt

The 2021 Osun festival billed for August would go on as scheduled despite the pollution of the Osun River, caused by gold mining activities in the Ijesa axis of the state.

This was made known by Adetoyi Michael Adeyinka, House Committee Chairman on Culture and Tourism in the state, during an unscheduled visit to the Osun Grove by the Committees on Environment, Sanitation, Culture and Tourism of the state.

Adeyinka said “the ongoing mining activities will in no way affect the traditional heritage of Osun and it will not also affect the annual Osun festival.

“I am certain that before the festival kicks off, we will be witnessing tremendous improvements and the environment will have been taken care of.”

Prince Philip: Buhari condoles with Queen Elizabeth II, UK

President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with Queen Elizabeth II over the death of her husband Prince Philip.

The Duke of Edinburgh died on Friday at Windsor Castle in England at the age of 99.

The Nigerian leader, in his message, said Philips passing was the end of an era.

He noted that the Duke was one of the greatest international figures whose contributions to the Commonwealth will be remembered for generations to come.

A former Minister of Education, and one of the conveners of BBOG, Oby Ezekwesili has formally written social media commentator, Japheth Omojuwa, demanding an explanation and public apology from him for enlisting her as one of the directors in his company -- Alpha Reach, without her consent or approval. 

Oby wrote him formally through her lawyers, Falana and Falana Chambers.

According to the letter shared by Oby herself on her twitter page, She said on March 31, 2021, she was contacted by a certain person inquiring if she knew of a company -- Alpha Reach in which her name was enlisted as one of the company's directors.

She denied having any knowledge of it or being aware of it.

Rivers Government bans meeting of Igbo Group in Oyigbo

The Rivers State Government has placed a ban on a planned meeting of some Igbo residents in the Oyigbo Local Government Area over fears that such meeting could spark fresh unrest in the area.

The meeting by a group known as the United Igbo community is scheduled to hold at Oyigbo on Saturday, April 10, 2021.

In a statement signed by the commissioner for information and communications, Paulinus Nsirim the government directed security agencies “to ensure that the said meeting does not hold to forestall a breakdown of law and order in the area”.

Though the government is not specific about any security concern, Oyigbo local government area which shares boundary with Abia state is considered a stronghold of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a proscribed group which the police claims is responsible for the attacks on police officers and its facilities in the area shortly after the #EndSARS protest in October 2020.

Seven injured in foiled Bauchi jailbreak

There was pandemonium at the Bauchi Custodial Centre on Friday following an attempted jailbreak, The Punch has learnt.

The quick intervention of Armed Personnel of the Service attached to the Centre immediately averted the incident.

Two personnel of the correctional service sustaining varying degrees of injuries.

The injured are said to be presently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital within the Bauchi metropolis.

Names, pictures of escaped Owerri prison inmates released

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) on Friday released names and pictures of 36 inmates who escaped on Monday from the Owerri Prison.

About 1,800 inmates reportedly escaped after the facility in Imo state was attacked by gunmen.

While the NCS said some inmates voluntarily returned, it also claimed it captured 48 of them.

One of the escaped inmates, David Ubong was arrested by Akwa Ibom State Police Command.

Police deploy 2016 men ahead of Delta’s Saturday by-election

The Commissioner of Police in Delta, Ari Ali, has deployed 2016 operatives for Saturday’s Isoko North Local Government Area Constituency by-election.

The police chief said this in a statement on Friday in Warri.

The by-election is for the vacant Delta House of Assembly seat following the death of Tim Owhefere.

Mr Owhefere died on January 27 at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, at 57. He was the Majority Leader in the Delta House of Assembly.

Mr Ali said the policemen would provide adequate security for the electorate and INEC officials.

Army allegedly kills 70, sets community ablaze in Benue over killing of 10 soldiers

The Nigerian Army have allegedly killed over 70 residents of Mbator in Shangev-Tiev of Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State.

The soldiers allegedly invaded the community following the killing of about 10 personnel who were on stabilisation operation in the state over the communal clash between Konshisha and Oju Local Government Area.

Daily Post had reported that the military, through its Director, Public Relations, Brig.-Gen Mohammed Yerima, in a statement on Thursday, confirmed the killing of the officers, stating that they were initially declared missing.

Following the attack on the troops, the army allegedly invaded the community on Thursday, gunned down scores and set houses and other facilities ablaze.
