Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell wants Nigerian billionaire, Aliko Dangote, as the new owner of the English Premier League side despite Stan Kroenke insisting the North London club is not for sale.

Dangote’s long-time ambition of acquiring Arsenal hit a snag after the club’s director, Josh Kroenke, the son of Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke, revealed they had no plans to sell the club.

Kroenke stated this Friday following backlash from fans over their involvement in the breakaway European Super League.

Arsenal were one of six English clubs who signed up for the project before withdrawing amid a storm of protest from fans, players and the British government, alongside threats of bans and sanctions from the game’s European and world governing bodies.

Prominent Nigerians on Saturday converged in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, in support of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Tinubu arrived in Makurdi with Murtala Nyako, a former governor of Adamawa state, to receive an honorary doctorate degree from the Federal University of Agriculture in the state.

A Nigerian lady, Elizabeth Tutu Coker-Nnam, who lives in Maryland, United States has won a $500,000 jackpot from a scratch-off lottery ticket.

The ticket was given to her belatedly by her brother as a birthday gift. She marked her birthday on 2 March.

Coker-Nnam of Upper Marlboro, Maryland told Virginia Lottery officials her brother gave her the Premier Cash Scratcher ticket from the Virginia Lottery as a late gift a few days after her birthday.

She said she forgot about the ticket for a few weeks until she was on the phone with her brother and decided to scratch it off while they were talking.

NDLEA intercepts drugs concealed in Holy Mary statue, auto spare parts [photos]

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted illicit drugs concealed in a Holy Mary statue and auto spare parts in Lagos State.

NDLEA in a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said the intercepted items were heading to Canada and the United Arab Emirate (UAE).

“The narcotics agents from the Directorate of Operations and General Investigations seized 500grammes of heroin going to Canada and hidden inside auto spare parts from one of the courier firms while 140grammes of Methamphetamine going to the Philippines and concealed inside the statue of Mary was seized in another courier company,” the statement read.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, on Saturday named Ife-Moro road after the late Afenifere Spokesperson, Mr Yinka Odumakin.

The Oba, represented by Mr Kemade Elugbade at the funeral service of Odumakin in Moro, described the late Afenifere chieftain as an unforgettable patriotic descendant of Oduduwa and a positive factor in Nigeria’s democracy.

Greenfield: Buhari reacts to killing of varsity students, issues threats to bandits

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the killing of three students of Greenfield University by bandits operating in Kaduna State.

A statement signed by Garba Shehu, the spokesman to the President, said Buhari strongly condemned the killing.

According to Shehu, Buhari said the bandits, who he described as evil people, have cut down the bright youngsters in their prime.

“My thoughts are with their families in this time of grief. May their souls rest in peace,” said the President.

Nigerian security forces carried out a joint operation in Imo State, less than three weeks after public assets were allegedly attacked by IPOB’s Eastern Security Network (ESN).

ESN is the militia wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra. The federal government had proscribed the organisation led by fugitive Nnamdi Kanu.

Though Kanu fled Nigeria after he was granted bail, he still commands a cult followership in the nation’s east. A number of other Igbo people across Nigeria and abroad believe in his agitation for Biafra.

Rachel Bakam saw herself in white robes with a crown - Mom says at burial of Tv personality

There was a free flow of emotions as family members, friends, colleagues, fans and sympathisers cried at the burial ceremony of actress and television presenter, Rachel Bakam.

Many of the guests wept uncontrollably at the funeral which took place on Friday at Gudu Cemetery in Wuse, Abuja.

Bakam, who hailed from Kaduna State, died on April 13, 2021, at the age of 38, after battling with pneumonia.

The deceased’s mother, Rose Bakam, while speaking at the burial, recounted her last moments with her daughter while still on admission in the hospital.

Gunmen raze Uzodinma’s country home, kill security aides

Gunmen in the early hours of Saturday attacked the country home of the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma.

The gunmen, who invaded the governor’s house in Omuma in the Oru East Local Government Area of the state, also killed two security men on duty before torching the house.

It was gathered that one of the security men killed was an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

According to a source, who pleaded anonymity, cars parked inside the compound and part of the building were torched.

Kaduna abductions: Parents devastated by students’ killing, 65 kidnapped in fresh attacks

Parents of the abducted students of Greenfield University, Kaduna State, have been left devastated after news filtered in on Friday that the kidnappers had killed three of the students.

In a related development, the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union on Friday alleged that no fewer than 65 Adara villagers in the Kajuru Local Government Area of the state were abducted by gunmen on Tuesday.

Greenfield University, which is privately owned, is located along the Kaduna-Abuja Highway in Kasarami, Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

Gunmen had reportedly kidnapped 23 students of the university on Tuesday night, killing a staff member during a shooting spree.

The Orile Division of the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday at 9 am, accosted and arrested one Udu Augustine, 39, of No 15, Ishola Street, Magogo in Yaba, at Orile Bus Stop.

Operatives stopped his motorcycle and the suspect introduced himself as a police officer.

Upon questioning, the man could not provide satisfactory answers. He was caught with a police warrant card.

Augustine was taken to his house, where one police camouflage T-shirt, one face cap and some police accouterments were found.

Sadiq Yusuf, Precious Nwakacha slain Greenfield University students identified

Abubakar Sadiq Yusuf Sanga and Precious Nwakacha have been identified as the remaining two of the three students of Greenfield University, killed by their abductors.

Precious was from Nnewi Anambra state.

Sadiq Yusuf was the son of Malam Yusuf Mu’azu, a Director of Kaduna Ministry of Works.

He was buried on Friday, with outpouring of condolences to the father, who was also a former chairman of Jemaa LGA.

Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo has revealed that the fact her mother didn't live enough to see her great-grandchildren really hurts her.

The remains of the late Afenifere spokesman yesterday arrived at the country home of the activist, Moro town in Ife North Local Government of Osun State.

Boko Haram attacks Giedam, home town of Acting IGP

Boko Haram insurgents have attacked Geidam town, the country home of Acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali.

The Nation gathered the attackers are currently at the heart of the town, burning shops and shooting sporadically in a gun battle with troops.

Details of the attack are sketchy but The Nation learnt all residents have ran away for safety.

Yobe Police Public Relation Officer, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the attack.

Those Unwilling To Forgive Pantami Are The Problem – Garba Shehu

Mr Garba Shehu has slammed the critics of the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, for their unwillingness to forgive him.

He believes the failure to forgive the minister for the comments he made in support of extremist groups in the past is worse than the offence he committed.

The President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity made the remarks on Friday during his appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television.

He said, “I am saying to you that people who stand in criticism of this position of the man who said he had wronged himself, he had wronged the society, and has apologised that he has changed, and they are not willing to forgive to move on; they are the ones who are the problem.”

Linda Sphiwe Mpofu from Bulawayo’s Barbourfields suburb begged the court to protect her from her marauding ex-lover Brenda Mugabazi.

Linda told the Bulawayo Civil Court that she is now living in fear for her life as Brenda did not take the break-up well. She alleged that her ex-lover is violent and abusive and is now stalking her and threatening her for daring to end the relationship.

Nigeria overtakes Congo as country with world’s poorest electricity supply

With “unreliable and widespread blackouts,” Nigeria now has the highest percentage of the population without access to electricity globally, overtaking the Democratic Republic of Congo, the World Bank says.

In a virtual engagement with reporters in Abuja on the Power Sector Recovery Programme (PSRP), the bank officials said 25 per cent of Nigeria’s population did not have access to electricity supply.

The bank added that many of the over 200 million Nigerian population with access to electricity had battled widespread blackouts and unreliable electricity supply for years.

“Nigeria now has the largest number of unelectrified people globally, and the trend is worsening; of the electrified, the supply is very unreliable with widespread blackouts,” it said.

The moment his wife also joined them in carrying his casket was also captured on camera. Mrs Odumakin has been speaking highly of her late husband since he passed away and even said she would like to do it all over with him. May the Lord comfort her. 

Japanese man with 35 girlfriends arrested for fraud over birthday gifts

A Japanese fraudster has been busted for allegedly scamming over 35 different women with whom he pretended he was in a serious relationship.

Takashi Miyagawa, a 39-year-old part-time worker with no fixed address in Kansai, told each of his “girlfriends” that his birthday fell on a different date so he could receive oodles of gifts, Newsflash reported.

All the while, his gals apparently blinded by love were completely oblivious to each other’s existence.

In the most recent scam, the serial s.e.x swindler told one 47-year-old lover that his birthday was on Feb. 22 despite it actually falling on Nov. 13. Another victim said he convinced her his birthday was in July, while a third mark was fooled into thinking it occurred in April.

Chaos in stadium as Osun Football Association insists on enforcing Covid-19 guidelines before kickoff of match

What seemed like chaos was on Friday averted in the main bowl of the Osogbo City Stadium as the Osun State Football Association insisted on enforcing the Covid-19 guidelines before the kickoff of a match between Ojaja FC of Ile-Ife and Olashile FC of Osogbo.

Tajudeen Ahmad, the media officer of Osun United who spoke to Daily Post over the telephone on the incident revealed all that the Osun FA sought to enforce was the Covid-19 protocols as stipulated by the National Centre for Disease (NCDC).

Ahmad said, “There was a playoff scheduled for the Osogbo Township Stadium between Ojaja FC of Ile-Ife and Olashile FC of Osogbo and the rules of the FA posted both on WhatsApp and Twitter yesterday was that we were going to observe the COVID-19 guidelines according to the directives of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).

Wales coach Ryan Giggs charged with assault

Wales boss Ryan Giggs has been charged with assaulting two women, prosecutors said on Friday less than two months before the start of the delayed Euro 2020 tournament.

A Crown Prosecution Service spokesman said the former Manchester United winger would appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on April 28.

“We have authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge Ryan Giggs with engaging in behaviour which was controlling or coercive and assault occasioning actual bodily harm,” read the CPS statement.

“A charge of assault by beating relating to a second woman has also been authorised.”

Breaking: Bandits kill three abducted Kaduna varsity students

Bandits have killed three of the abducted students of the Greenfield University, Kasarami in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The Greenfield University, a privately-owned institution, is located along the Kaduna-Abuja Highway.

Some unspecified numbers of students and a staff of the university were kidnapped by gunmen on Tuesday night.

The bandits later made contact with the parents and demanded N800m ransom for the release of the students.

Ahmed Musa on Friday, donated N2 million to Army Day Secondary School, Bukavu Barrack, Kano.

Mr. Rilwan Malikawa, Media Officer, Kano Pillars Football Club, said in a statement in Kano, that the donation was for the construction of a mosque in the school premises.

According to the statement, Musa made the donation when he visited the school after completing routine training at the barracks.

The 2013 AFCON winner also promised to provide furniture for the school.

Police arrest school teacher for sleeping with male pupils

The Oyo State police command on Thursday paraded a primary school teacher, Ebenezer Olawuyi for sleeping with two of his male pupils.  

The 30-year-old, Olawuyi said he lured the pupils to his house to mark examination scripts for him and sodomised them.

The state command also paraded 33 others for armed robbery, kidnapping and carjacking in the state.

Olawuyi said he didn't know what led him to sleeping with small boys instead of women.
