A wife was left ‘shocked’ and ‘devastated’ after her husband suggested that he have s3x with her sister in an attempt to impregnate her amid the couple’s infertility issues.
A Reddit user, 34 – whose name is unknown – revealed that she and her husband, 37, have been struggling to become pregnant.
They decided to look into surrogacy, and when the user’s younger sister, 30, agreed to carry the baby for them, they were delighted.
However, the Reddit user’s excitement quickly turned to devastation after her husband suggested that they do it the ‘traditional way,’ meaning he would have sex with the Reddit user’s younger sister rather than implanting one of her fertilized eggs through in vitro fertilization.
She said her husband claimed that he only wanted to do it so they could save ‘time and money’ – since IVF could cost an upwards of $30,000 – but she insisted they were financially prepared.
She said she was ‘shocked, devastated, and uncomfortable’ with his suggestion, and ultimately ‘shut it down.’
She explained that if they did go through with it, she would always carry ‘the memory of how the baby was conceived.’
But now, she said he is ‘guilting’ her and claiming she is ‘selfish,’ since he has always ‘wanted to be a dad.’
She opened up about the predicament in the subreddit TrueOffMyChest, and many people on the internet were disturbed and horrified by her husband’s actions.
‘My husband and I have been struggling with infertility. We’ve tried some options and right now we’re looking into surrogacy,’ she began.
‘My sister agreed to do it but my husband said he looked at how much time and money IVF would take and slowly started hinting that we take the traditional way.
‘I was too shocked to even say anything but he acted like what he said was not even that big of a deal.
‘He explained that it’s just a quick way for us to have a baby and spare the money and time to use later.’
The woman wrote that she is ‘100 per cent against it,’ and that she has since decided to give up on surrogacy altogether.
‘I can’t even imagine my sister’s reaction once she hears my husband’s suggestion,’ she continued.
‘I’m both devastated over the fact that one, he’d even entertain having sex with my sister just because he wants the easy way, and two, if I ever agree despite feeling uncomfortable then I will always carry this memory of how the baby is conceived.’
After voicing her distain over his idea, the Reddit user said her husband started accusing her of not trusting him – and blamed her for her infertility issues.
‘He’s now started guilting me saying I don’t trust him and saying I’m selfish for choosing to back out when he still wants to be a dad like he expected when he married me,’ she added.
‘[He’s] basically blaming me for my infertility issues. I feel so devastated and like my body is useless and has failed me to the point where I could expect any negative comment on it whether true on not.
‘Emotionally and mentally… I just can’t express how I feel right now.’
In the comment section, she explained that her sister still has ‘no idea’ of the situation.
‘I’m not planning on telling her because I won’t let it happen. I’m not even considering his suggestion and if he wants to keep saying that I’m the problem then it’s fine with me,’ she wrote.
‘I’ve endured so much for the past years mentally, physically, and emotionally and now I it won’t be much different.’
Her post quickly went viral, and it has since received more than 8,000 comments – with some people sending the woman their support and others slamming her ‘manipulative’ and ‘creepy’ husband and encouraging her to leave him.
‘What you and your husband need is a divorce, not a baby,’ wrote on user.
Another added: ‘There are many ways to become a parent. But not with this guy! Right now, your lack of pregnancy is a blessing! Get out of this marriage!’
‘Your husband isn’t in it for the right reasons,’ said someone else. ‘On top of that, he’s blaming you for not getting pregnant? This shouldn’t be a man to stay married to… Let alone have a baby with.’
‘That is a huge red flag,’ read a fourth comment. ‘Like, many red flags. Can’t get much redder.’
‘It’s straight up abusive behavior – it’s beyond red flag,’ claimed a different user.
Others pointed out that if he did have s3x with the Reddit user’s sister and got her pregnant, that would legally make the baby her sister’s, not hers.
‘This dude is broken. This is not how a husband acts. Plus, this would be her sister’s egg and not her kid… That’s not a surrogate via IVF. Too weird,’ wrote one person.
Another added: ‘This is not a surrogacy situation. This would be your sister’s and your husband’s baby and your sister would be under no legal obligation to let you adopt her child after birth. This is absolutely outlandish.’
‘IVF is not the same as your husband knocking up your sister, people,’ pointed out a different user.
